Root intrusion into sewer or drain pipes is common. Roots enter through breaks or joints and keep growing, eventually causing a blockage. Our clients called our Drain Team crew when their toilets, tubs, and sinks wouldn’t drain, a telltale sign of a blocked pipe. Our first step was to snake the line through the ground-level access and attempt a drain clean out. Using equipment with a camera and transmitter beacon, we immediately identified the blockage as a horsetail root intrusion. We augured through the roots, performed a complete root intrusion extraction, and used the camera and beacon to assess the rest of the pipe. Left unchecked, roots will grow back and create more damage, so we also designed a permanent repair and solution to prevent recurring root intrusions.
